EXPRESSIVE CONTROL

WITH NITRAM CHARCOAL

Giacomo, 2024, 27 cm x 36 cm, Nitram Charcoal on Arches Ingres paper

“Giacomo was completed between the fall 2024 and winter 2025 terms of my study at Angel Academy of Art. The subject is a fellow artist and close friend of mine, and was done to explore different rendering techniques using charcoal.

My experience with Nitram Charcoal has positively changed my opinion of charcoal as an artistic medium. Nitram Charcoal offers consistency and control over the medium, while also being versatile enough to utilize various techniques. The different hardnesses allow me to choose how precise or loose one wishes to be in my work, either rendering forms to a precise and smooth finish or maintaining the textured look that can accompany charcoal drawings. Nitram’s charcoal products are wholly responsible for cementing charcoal as a consistent medium in my work moving forward.”
