A Simple Introduction to Nitram Aquarelle with Gabriela Solís
BUILDING LAYERS
WITH NITRAM CHARCOAL

"View of Shrubs Near a Railway Line", 29.7 x 42 cm, Nitram Fusain Aquarelle on Clairefontaine paper, mixed media.
“This painting is part of an ongoing series focused on what occurs within the context of the train environment — its landscapes and micro-landscapes — and how nature, the everyday movement of people, and the speed of a machine coexist.
Much of this series is being created using Nitram Fusain Aquarelle, as it is an exceptional material that allows me to build multiple layers of greys and deep blacks. In this way, I am able to have much greater control over the atmospheric qualities within the landscapes.
Additionally, Nitram Fusain Aquarelle allows me to work in a watercolour-like manner, enabling me to remove or wear down areas of the paper when needed, and offeringa wide range of expressive possibilities through gesture and mark-making.”
